Reasons for having a book fair:
1) To involve parents and community in the school library.
2) To provide students with books of their own and increase literacy.
3) Raise money for the library to contribute to things like: reading incentives, other incentives for literacy events, literacy events, thank yous for teachers and library helpers and other items that the library may need.
4) Encourage administrators, teachers and other staff members to visit the library.

Selling the Idea to the adminstration:
1) It will not involve extra work on their part.
2) Will get parents in the building for something positive.
3) Will promote the school and district in a positive light
4) Helps increase literacy
5) Shows off the library and the students.

Scheduling The Book Fair with the Vendor: The book fair will be scheduled for open house time, to not only maximize sales, but also to encourage parents to visit the library during the open house. If the week of open house in unavailable, the book fair will take place prior to Christmas to encourage parents, school faculty and students to purchase books as holiday presents. To schedule the book fair the librarian will call scholastic and speak with a representative.

Preparing a Student Schedule: The librarians will have all the English teachers sign up to bring their classes to the library for 20 minute time slots. The librarians will use the schedule sheet to keep track of which classes will be visiting the book fair and when.


Providing After School Hours: The book fair will be open until 4pm each day. In addition, there will be a family night that will take place during the night of open house. However, if the week of open house is unavailable the librarian will schedule a night where the book fair will be open to parents. If possible, this parent night could take place during the winter concert.
